JAY — Just in time for spring weather, families in Santa Rosa County have a new playground to explore at the Chumuckla Community Center, 2355 Highway 182 in Jay. A ribbon-cutting celebration will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
"This recreational project was made possible by the citizens of Santa Rosa County voting for the local option sales tax. It would not have been achievable otherwise," District 3 Commissioner Don Salter said. "The new playground is a complement to the existing Chumuckla Community Center and ball fields, as well as the Chumuckla Elementary School."
Playground equipment installation was completed last week while the ADA-friendly pour-in-place surfacing and fencing is being completed now. The new all-inclusive playground equipment includes play structures designed for two age groups: two through five and five through 12.
Santa Rosa County public works staff provided site work. Funding was made possible by local option sales tax dollars. Additional improvements, including renovation of the community center's restroom facilities, are scheduled for later this year
