Milton High student arrested after allegedly yelling "School shooter"

MILTON — A 16-year-old Milton High student is in jail on one count of disturbing the peace, a second-degree misdemeanor, after allegedly yelling "school shooter" three times outside of a classroom, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office press release.

Teacher Joey Murdock brought the incident to Officer Dewayne Robinson’s attention. According to the SRSO report, Murdock stated the student knocked on teacher Hendricks’ classroom door loudly and yelled "school shooter" three times. Murdock said he stepped out of his classroom to find the student standing in the hallway laughing.

Murdock took the student to the front office and spoke with Robinson and Dean Kevin Jordan. Murdock having to stop teaching and determine if a shooting was taking place was a major disruption, according to the report.

"[The student] stated he thought it would be funny and get a laugh out of his classmates," the report said.

Officer Robinson collected 13 witness statements from 11 students and two teachers that heard the alleged disruption.

The student was transported to the Santa Rosa County jail rapid intake without incident and will be released to his grandfather and guardian.
