MILTON — The City of Milton Fire Department will offer the class series "Restaurant Fire Safety & Portable Fire Extinguishers" to help educate restaurant employees on fire safe practices, fire safety equipment design, maintenance and operation and proper procedures for responding to fires and similar emergencies.

The class to be held at the City of Milton Fire Department, 5321 Stewart Street, will be available free of charge to employees of Milton restaurants and include classroom presentations and hands-on training in the use of portable fire extinguishers on live fire conditions.

"This class has been developed in response to a request from a local restaurant owner who recognized the potential danger of employees not understanding the risks and potential impacts of fire and proper procedures to be followed in the event of a fire in her restaurant," Milton Fire Department Fire Chief John E. Reble said. "We felt that this was a very good idea, and have worked to offer this class to members of our business community."

Classes are scheduled to be held at the fire station at 9 a.m. Feb. 22 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 27 to accommodate breakfast, lunch and dinner shifts.  Restaurant employees desiring to register for this class can call the fire station at 983-5430 to register or email fire@mymiltonflorida.com.
