PENSACOLA — Jazz Pensacola's 2018 Student Jazz Competition seeks entrants.
The finals of this year's competition will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15 at Pensacola State College's Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, 1000 College Blvd.
Three finalists from each division will perform in the live finals at the Ashmore. The event is free to attend and open to the public. Awards for first, second and third place in each division, ranging from $100 to $500, must be used for music education expenses.
Applying instrumentalists and vocalists must live and attend school (including homeschooling for the High School Division) in the greater Pensacola area including Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties in Florida and Baldwin County in Alabama.
The application process includes submitting a recording of two jazz solos with backing performances, which will be judged in a preliminary round to select the three applicants in each division to go on to the live finals.
The Student Competition page of the Jazz Pensacola website, http://jazzpensacola.com/student-competition/, contains the downloadable 2018 application, which features additional information regarding the application process and requirements.
Also on that page are backing tracks in the various divisions that can be downloaded and used for the submission sample.
The application deadline is Feb. 23.
