Events scheduled to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy

MILTON — Santa Rosa County residents and visitors can attend these Milton events to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy:

PRAYER BREAKFAST: 9 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Santa Rosa County auditorium, 4530 Spikes Way. Cost: $10. Contact the Rev. Murray Hamilton at 736-1976 or murrayhamilton55@att.net for details.

COMMEMORATIVE PROGRAM: 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at Mount Pilgrim African Baptist Church, 5103 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Come for the crowning of the 2018 MLK king and queen, the community award recipient presentation, and guest speaker, pastor Michael Thomas of St. John Divine Missionary Baptist Church. MLK DAY SERVICE PROJECT: A canned food drive will take place during these events. The Milton MLK Day Committee asks attendees to bring canned and nonperishable foods. Area needy families will receive this food in honor of King. The Jan. 15 block party is the last opportunity to make a donation to the food drive.
