A Gulf Breeze man charged with attempted second-degree murder is being held at the Santa Rosa County jail without a bond.
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nolen Allen Childers, 67, in connection with a Tuesday morning shooting at the 2800 block of Clear Lake Place in Gulf Breeze.
Ralph Amick, 68, was taking out garbage around 10:45 a.m. when Childers, his neighbor, began yelling and cursing at him from his home, according to the victim’s statement in the arrest report.
"Amick then stated Mr. Childers pulled a pistol from the back of his pants," the report stated. "Mr. Amick stated he went to turn and run away when Mr. Childers began firing."
Amick’s spouse said she heard three gunshots, according to the arrest report.
"Mr. Amick stated he then went to his residence and told his wife to call a paramedic," the report stated.
The sheriff’s office responded at 11 a.m. to the shooting. Amick received non-life-threatening gun shot wounds and was taken to Baptist Hospital.
"After crime scene technicians processed the scene and Major Crimes detectives completed their investigation, sufficient probable cause was established to arrest [Childers] for shooting [Amick]," a sheriff’s office press release stated.
Childers declined to make a statement, according to the sheriff’s office.
