Jazz Pensacola seeks arts and crafts exhibitors 

PENSACOLA — Jazz Pensacola seeks arts and crafts exhibitors to submit applications for the 2018 JazzFest.

The event takes place April 7-8 at Seville Square in historic downtown Pensacola.

Applications are available at jazzpensacola.com. Just original art and handmade crafts or products will be accepted. No commercial products are allowed for submission. 

All entries cost $100 through Dec. 31 and $150 afterward, for a 10-by-10-foot canopy or smaller.

Last call for Navarre seniors dance 

NAVARRE — A New Year’s Eve Dance is set Dec. 31 at the Holley-Navarre Senior Center, just across the street from the Navarre Library. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music plays from 9 p.m. to midnight.

"Dance to the music of Joe Occhipinti’s Band, which plays a variety of music to satisfy everyone’s taste," a senior center media release states.

Attendees can bring packaged snacks for the refreshments table. Soft drinks and party favors will be provided. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Tickets are $15 each, and there is plenty of parking surrounding the center.

Waste Pro to collect in Navarre 

NAVARRE — Navarre area residents using Waste Management should have received a first-quarter invoice from Waste Pro, their new trash collector, in December.

Effective Jan. 2, Waste Pro will provide trash, recycling and yard waste collections for all of south Santa Rosa County. Current Waste Management customers will keep their existing trash carts and their service days will stay the same.

Navarre Park restrooms to close for floor replacement 

NAVARRE — The Navarre Park restroom facility, located on the west end of the park, will be closed soon for floor replacement.

Closures take effect Jan. 8-19 at the 8513 Navarre Parkway location.

Additional restrooms in the Santa Rosa County Visitor Information Center will be available to park visitors.

Pace garden club to focus on feng shui 

PACE — Azalea Garden Club starts a busy year with a monthly meeting Jan. 8, 12:30 p.m., at the Pace Fire Department Conference Room, 4773 Pace Patriot Blvd.

Jean and Margie will present, "Feng Shui Gardening." Guests and prospective members are welcome.

The club’s 2018 schedule brings another Old English Tea fundraiser and new activities for children.

Santa Rosa County 4-H sets quilting workshops

MILTON — Santa Rosa County 4-H will offer a "Past, Present & Future 4-H Quilting Class" workshop series for current, former or prospective 4-Hers as well as adults.

The series, in partnership with the Home & Community Educator volunteers, will teach the basics of quilting and prepare students for quilting projects. The cost is $10 per class ($40 total).

Here is the schedule:

•Jan. 13, 2018 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) — picking the pattern

•Feb. 10, 2018 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) — cutting the quilt

•March 10, 2018 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) — sewing it up

•April 14, 2018 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) — putting it all together

All classes are held at the Santa Rosa County Extension Office, 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton.

Santa Rosa Art Association offers art grants 

MILTON — The Santa Rosa Art Association Inc. is offering up to $200 art grants to individual classroom teachers in any discipline and up to $300 for teams or grade-level teachers in any discipline in Santa Rosa County for use in the 2017-2018 school term.

The money used must fund art education projects of some kind — whether that involves art creation, history or appreciation — and teachers must produce tangible proof of completion.

Teachers applying for a grant may submit as individuals or as a team, may be assigned to any grade level, and do not have to be art teachers.

Business offering $55K in scholarships for high school seniors 

GULF BREEZE — Mediacom Communications is offering $55,000 in scholarships to support high school seniors planning to further their education. In its 17th consecutive year, the company's scholarship program will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 55 high school seniors.

Scholarship recipients can use the financial award to support educational expenses for higher education or vocational training from any accredited post-secondary institution starting in the fall of 2018. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership.

Applications for the company's World Class Scholarships are available at www.mediacomworldclass.com. All high schools in the business' served communities received informational cards asking school officials to make seniors aware of the scholarship and encourage submission of applications on or before the Feb. 16, 2018 deadline. 

Applicants do not have to be the company's customers but must live in areas where the business provides broadband, video, phone and other digital communication services.

Holley Navarre Seniors Center offers snowbird activities card 

NAVARRE — The Holley Navarre Seniors Center is offering a Snowbird Activities Card for $25. This will give snowbirds the same privileges, except voting as a full member, until March 31.

Free activities include bridge and other card games, exercise, Greek dancing, yoga, Wii bowling, shuffleboard, corn hole and Thursday game night. Bingo is available at $1 per card and art class is $6.

The center is located at 8476 Gordon Goodin Lane, east of Highway 87 across from the Navarre Library. The office is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
