Musical ‘The Greatest Gift’ scheduled

MILTON — The Panhandle Community Theatre will present one showing of "The Greatest Gift," a musical play written by April Healan. The event is set 2:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Imogene Theatre, 6866 Caroline St., Milton.

"The year is 1944 and Small Town, USA is getting ready for Christmas with all the usual activities: decorating trees, buying carefully selected presents with rationed monies, visiting with friends, cooking treats to share and making plans to attend the town celebration for food, fellowship, Santa's visit and the very special Nativity re-enactment," an event media release states. "Yet lurking in the background is the uncertainty of WWII, [which] many of the town's young men are fighting. Wives and children ask only that husbands and fathers come home safely and, if possible, for Christmas.

"Emotions are on edge, forced smiles lack appeal, and joy seems out of reach! Can these citizens rally to the spirit of Christmas and its true meaning?"
