MILTON — The Head Start program of Santa Rosa County District Schools hosted a Christmas-themed literacy event Tuesday night at TR Jackson Pre-K Center.
The event included a Christmas sing-along, reading of the Clement C. Moore classic, "The Night Before Christmas" and screening of the movie based on a book by Raymond Briggs, "The Snowman."
Rod Gracey, health and safety specialist, and Casey Greene, pre-K ESE teacher, sang Christmas songs while children sang along. Sharrell Ethridge, early childhood education and assessment specialist, read "The Night Before Christmas."
Parents and children wore their favorite wintertime pajamas, laid on blankets and enjoyed cookies and milk in the cafeteria of the school.
This event was a part of Head Start’s literacy initiative for Santa Rosa County students designed to model reading to parents and introduce them to the variety of literacy experiences they can share with their children on a daily basis, according to Lee Bott, Head Start student and family services specialist.
