Navarre developments would hurt recreational development

Dear editor,

I live off Whispering Pines Boulevard in Navarre. At the Dec. 14 county commissioners meeting at 6 p.m. in Milton, two major decisions will be made that directly affect southern Santa Rosa County.

The county Zoning Board [on Nov. 9] reviewed how the building of the proposed Sanctuary Apartments and the Creet’s Landing subdivision by the Killingworth and Parker families on the north end of Whispering Pines will eliminate two of the few remaining undeveloped areas that could be used for development of parks/recreation areas for our families and our youths.

The Zoning Board recommended "no" on Sanctuary Apartments, to the county commissioners, for rezoning. However, the county commissioners can determine to rezone both projects, allowing further destruction of Navarre’s last remaining lands available for park development.

The Navarre Incorporation Feasibility Study, completed in 2014, estimated the permanent population of Navarre would be 42,300 in 2015.

Yet we have one city park.

And, if approved, Sanctuary Apartments will eliminate the only other possible area of additional recreational development adjacent to the very small existing soccer complex.

Call the county commissioners at 983-1877 and urge them to vote "no" on Sanctuary Apartments and Creet’s Landing.
