Arts and Crafts Fair returns to Milton
MILTON — St. Mary’s Episcopal Church seeks artists and crafters for its annual Winter Arts and Crafts Fair.
This event is 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the historic church on 6849 Oak St., in Milton.
Christmas Tour of Homes set in Milton
MILTON — The Milton Garden Club and Bruce Baker of RE/MAX Infinity will present the Christmas Tour of Homes.
The event is set 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 throughout Milton.
Tickets cost $10 and have directions to the houses and church on the tour. Participants may drive from home to home to see the sites.
Garden Club members will be at the houses. MGC will hold a cookie reception at the 5256 Alabama St. clubhouse.

Sacred Heart sets free flu shots
NAVARRE — During December, Sacred Heart Health System will provide free flu shots at locations in Pensacola, Milton, Cantonment, Beulah and Navarre for adults who are poor, elderly or uninsured.
Only individuals ages 18 and up are eligible for these flu shots.

Free outdoor movies return
MILTON — The city of Milton, in conjunction with Santa Rosa County Federal Credit Union and the GEO Group, will present Big Screen on the Blackwater, a three-week series of holiday movies in historic downtown Milton.
The movies will start at 6:30 p.m. on South Willing Street in Milton. Each night you can bring refreshments or purchase something to eat from various food vendors.
Here is the remaining movie lineup:
Dec. 8: Holiday Shorts ("Frosty the Snowman," "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas") — Two of these films, "Frosty the Snowman" and "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer," are the classic work of stop-motion animation. These classics date back to when Rankin/Bass produced several holiday specials. Another must classic for the holidays is "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The 1965 holiday short, from the mind of Charles Schultz, who also created the Peanuts comic strip, tells of a depressed boy named Charlie Brown as the Christmas season approaches. Charlie Brown discovers the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ.
Dec. 15: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Mickey’s Christmas Carol" — Dr. Seuss’ "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" was used to criticize the commercialization of Christmas. The book was later adapted into this animated TV movie starring Boris Karloff as both the narrator and the voice of the Grinch. In "Mickey’s Christmas Carol," Mickey Mouse and his friends appear in an animated version of Charles Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol."
Santa Rosa County Democratic Black Caucus sets Blue Jazz Brunch fundraiser
GULF BREEZE — The Santa Rosa County Democratic Black Caucus will present a Blue Jazz Brunch fundraiser.
The event is set 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Tiger Point Community Center, 1370 Tiger Park Lane in Gulf Breeze. It includes a catered buffet brunch, music by The Jaspers, prize drawings and guest speakers. Tallahassee mayor and gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum will be among speakers.
Tickets for the event cost $25 and are available through www.srcdbc.org or by contacting Elaine Reid at 501-3417. Funds raised will support the caucus’ "Adopt A Family for Xmas" project; support voter education and information activities; and underwrite voter transportation for seniors and the disabled and other community advocacy activities.
Art grant applications available for local organizations
The Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival will offer grants to local arts organizations.
The festival’s committee annually awards grants to local nonprofit organizations in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties for community art projects. Grant recipients also can display their works and programs to thousands of visitors at the annual downtown Pensacola festival.
Applications for 2018 grants, available at www.ggaf.org/grants, are accepted through Dec. 11. 2017 grant fund recipients include First City Arts Alliance, Friends of West Florida Public Library, Manna Food Bank Inc., Pensacola Bay Concert Band, Pensacola Museum of Art, Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation, Vision of Hope and WUWF Public Media.
Santa Rosa Art Association offers art grants
MILTON — The Santa Rosa Art Association Inc. is offering up to $200 art grants to individual classroom teachers in any discipline and up to $300 for teams or grade-level teachers in any discipline in Santa Rosa County for use in the 2017-2018 school term.
The money used must fund art education projects of some kind — whether that involves art creation, history or appreciation — and teachers must produce tangible proof of completion.
Teachers applying for a grant may submit as individuals or as a team, may be assigned to any grade level, and do not have to be art teachers.

Business offering $55K in scholarships for high school seniors
GULF BREEZE — Mediacom Communications is offering $55,000 in scholarships to support high school seniors planning to further their education. In its 17th consecutive year, the company's scholarship program will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 55 high school seniors.
Scholarship recipients can use the financial award to support educational expenses for higher education or vocational training from any accredited post-secondary institution starting in the fall of 2018. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership.
Applications for the company's World Class Scholarships are available at www.mediacomworldclass.com. All high schools in the business' served communities received informational cards asking school officials to make seniors aware of the scholarship and encourage submission of applications on or before the Feb. 16, 2018 deadline.
Applicants do not have to be the company's customers but must live in areas where the business provides broadband, video, phone and other digital communication services.

Santa Rosa's 2016-17 fiscal report now online
MILTON — Santa Rosa County's 2016-2017 annual report is now available online at www.santarosa.fl.gov.
Residents can see what happened in Santa Rosa County during the fiscal year spanning Oct. 1, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2017 in the full-color, 44-page downloadable document.
The report provides a demographic profile and comparison statistics on the county as well as information on county leadership. It features each department of the county with highlights of accomplishments of the past fiscal year. Santa Rosa County employees provided photography in the publication.
Public computer resources are available at all of the county's five libraries for residents without internet access.
