MILTON — Each year, the Santa Rosa County School Board must elect a chairman and vice chairman at a November reorganizational meeting.
On Nov. 21, the board nominated and voted unanimously for Diane Scott as chairman and Carol Boston as vice chairman.
According to county law, the chairman's duties include presiding at all school board meetings, appointing committees and performing other duties that may be prescribed by law or by action of the school board.
The vice chairman presides in the absence of the chairman and performs other duties of the chairman as required by circumstances.
Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick’s duties differ from the chairman's during meetings. The superintendent attends school board meetings and acts as the secretary and executive officer of the school board, according to the law.
At the annual reorganizational meeting, the superintendent acts as chairman until reorganization of the board is complete.
The purpose of the reorganization meeting is also to approve the school board meeting and workshop schedule for the upcoming year, which follows:
- 9 a.m. Dec. 14, 2017: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. Jan. 16, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15, 2018: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. March 8, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. April 5, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. April 24, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. May 17, 2018: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. June 7, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. June 21, 2018: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. July 12, 2018: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. July 24, 2018: workshop — 2018/19 budget presentation
- 10 a.m. July 24, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2, 2018: first public hearing on budget
- 9 a.m. Aug. 16, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 2018: second public hearing on budget
- 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27, 2018: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. Oct. 16, 2018: regular meeting
- 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8, 2018: regular meeting
- 9 a.m. Nov. 20, 2018: reorganizational meeting
- 9 a.m. Dec. 13, 2018: regular meeting
