Pace baseball player commits to South Alabama

PACE — Pace High baseball player Bennett Shell has received a scholarship to play for the University of South Alabama, a District 1 school.

The 5-foot-9-inch 170-pound athlete plays second base, left field and center field, according to his profile on fieldlevel.com, a college recruiting website.

Here we catch up with Shell on his recruitment.

How long have you been playing baseball?

I have been playing baseball since I was 3 years old at Gospel Projects.

Can you tell us about how you were recruited?

I was actually in Troy, Alabama playing in a showcase when South Alabama first contacted me the fall of my sophomore year. It turned out I had a tournament at South Alabama the next weekend so after I got done playing the coaches talked with me and my family, showed us around and made an offer that day. I was very excited about the offer, knowing it was a great program with a great coaching staff! I felt at home.

How do you typically spend your time?

I’m usually either working out or hitting but if not I like spending time with family and friends.

What are you going to study in school?

(I’m going to) major in Professional Health Sciences. I’d really like to use that major to do medical administration or health care administration.

What does your family think about you going to USA?

My family really loves South Alabama. I have a cousin that’s on the team now as a pitcher, so to have family there, along with it being so close to home is awesome and they are very excited.
