MILTON — Open enrollment lasts just 45 days, Nov. 1 through Dec. 15. Need health insurance? Santa Rosa Medical Center can help you explore your options and apply for coverage.

The Health Insurance Marketplace allows you to compare health coverage options and find plans that meet your needs and fit your budget. The Marketplace uses basic household size and annual income to determine if there are low or no-cost plans for you and your family.

Health care costs can be significant without health insurance.

For instance:

  • Fixing a broken leg can cost up to $7,500
  • The average cost of a three-day hospital stay is around $30,000
  • Comprehensive cancer care can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars

If you can afford health insurance coverage but don’t sign up for a plan, you may have to pay a penalty on your federal income tax return. The penalty is either 2.5 percent of family income or a predetermined flat rate, whichever is higher.
