Catching up with all-star volleyball player Alexis van Norman

Alexis has been playing volleyball for seven years and is currently on Pace's volleyball team. [Special to the Press Gazette]

PACE — Alexis van Norman is a senior at Pace High School and one of nine females in Santa Rosa County selected to join the 2017 Subway High School All-Star Volleyball team.

The Subway High School All-Star Series is a sequence of games between high school senior athletes from Okaloosa, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. The main volleyball game is set Nov. 16 at the University of West Florida.

Here, we catch up with Alexis on making the all-star team, her everyday life and her aspirations.

How long have you been playing volleyball?

I’ve been playing volleyball for seven years.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I love to hang out with my friends.

How much free time do you actually get between sports and school?

Depending on how late I stay up to give myself more free time, and how much homework I have, I probably get two to four hours' free time on a school day.

Do you play any other sports?

No.

How do you feel about making the Subway All-star team?

I’m honored to have made the Subway All-star team. I think it’s a great opportunity, and I’m excited to get to play with great volleyball players who I normally don’t get to play with.

What do you want to do as a career?

I want to be a physical therapist.

Do you plan on going to college?

As of now, I plan to attend the University of South Alabama.

What advice would you give other students?

Advice I would give to other students is to always work hard in school, but to also make time for your friends and family.
