5 things to do this weekend in Santa Rosa County

1. ENJOY LOCAL MUSIC. Bands on the Blackwater returns 7-9 p.m. Oct. 20 on South Willing Street. The outdoor concert series, held Friday nights in downtown Milton, is free to attend. You can pull up a boat or bring a lawn chair and relax while listening to music. This week’s featured band is Swing Town.

2. LEARN ABOUT BUTTERFLIES. The Panhandle Butterfly House will host the 11th Annual Monarch Madness Butterfly Festival 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 21 and 22 at 8581 Navarre Parkway. The butterfly house will celebrate the journey of the monarch butterfly. Visitors can enjoy strolling through the vivarium. Children can learn about the life and biology of the monarch butterfly, and are invited to grab a monarch madness passport and take flight to monarch waystations to solve the mystery. Children, ages 5 and up, and adults will be able to tag and release a monarch butterfly for a $5 donation.

3. TAKE A HAYRIDE THROUGH TOWN. The City of Milton will host the Hayride through History and Taste of the Town 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Milton Historic Cemetery. Tickets are available at Milton City Hall, the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce and Simply Southern. Tickets are $10 for tour only, $20 for tour and tastings, and children five and younger are free. Call 983-5410 for more information or to purchase tickets.

4. STAND UP AGAINST BULLYING. Pace Gracie Jiu Jitsu will host an anti-bullying seminar 9-10 a.m. Oct. 21 at 5430 Highway 90 in Milton. The seminar features self-defense techniques to safely get away from a potentially harmful situation along with information about bullying tailored for kids and parents. 5. SUPPORT GUARDIAN AD LITEM. The Northwest Florida Guardian ad Litem Foundation and the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office will hold the Inaugural Sheriff’s Challenge Charity Golf Tournament 12-9 p.m. Oct. 20 at 5755 East Milton Road in Milton. Sheriff Bob Johnson of Santa Rosa County has challenged Sheriff David Morgan of Escambia County to a charity golf event for the benefit of the Guardian ad Litem Foundation.
