Santa Rosa Kids' House provides mobile aid with $100,000 donation

MILTON — Due to a $100,000 donation from golf pro Bubba Watson, the Santa Rosa Kids’ House is the only Children’s Advocacy Center in Florida with an RV to provide therapy to distant victims, according to its Executive Director Keith Ann Campbell.

The RV is a 2016 Coachman Freelander MH Class C. The donation covers the RV as well as a 35-foot aluminum carport and wooden gate.

Amenities include a generator to provide onboard power, a fully functional bathroom with shower, a refrigerator and a bedroom in the rear converted for therapy space, according to Campbell.

The RV can offer a temporary sanctuary for children when authorities are handling a crime scene in a home.

“They can be away from the badges and guns,” Kids’ House Victims Advocate Kelley said.

The Kids’ House also uses the RV for outreach, Campbell said, and keeps promotional materials on board as well as a cornhole, or beanbag-tossing, game.

The Kids’ House applied for an Impact 100 grant but did not win, Campbell said, and through a conversation with a friend, Watson, a Bagdad native, learned this and decided to make the donation himself.

The Kids’ House can depend on Watson whenever they need a sponsor, Campbell said.

“He’s never asked to have his name on (donations),” she said.

He has also provided signed gloves and hats, which the Kids’ House auctioned to support its work, she said.
