NAS Whiting Field selects Sailors of the Quarter

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Martheen Morales

MILTON — Naval Air Station Whiting Field recently selected the Sailor of the Quarter, Junior Sailor of the Quarter and Blue Jacket of the Quarter for the third quarter of Fiscal Year of 2017.

Every quarter, commands in the United States Navy recognize and honor Sailors who demonstrated sustained superior performance, military bearing, leadership, and adherence to the core values of honor, courage and commitment. This recognition motivates Sailors to continue to perform to the best of their ability and stand out among peers.

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Bryan Nutter, Master at Arms 2nd Class Sebastian Rivera and Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Martheen Morales, respectively, earned the honors.

Nutter, recipient of Sailor of the Quarter served as Fire Captain at Navy Outlying Landing Field (NOLF) Santa Rosa, managing six firefighters and two emergency vehicles. He has responded to seven precautionary emergencies and was directly responsible for initiating and documenting 81 National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) reports.

“Aviation Boatswains Mate 1st Class Nutter is the true definition of a deck plate leader,” said Lt. Mark Rodriguez, the Crash Crew department head.

Receiving the Junior Sailor of the Quarter, Rivera served as Patrol Officer for NAS Whiting Field and has conducted 75 random anti-terrorism checks, and responded to 25 calls for service. As duty armorer, he was responsible for the issuance, accountability and maintenance of 175 weapons, 3,000 rounds of ammunition and 52 radios. Also serving as the command fitness leader, he led the security department to a 100 percent pass rate for 2017 cycle 1 PRT.

“Master at Arms 2nd Class Rivera is an example to all the Sailors onboard NAS Whiting Field. It’s an honor to have him as part of our team,” remarked Lt. Cerezo, Navy security department head.

Morales, Blue Jacket of the Quarter, served as an E-28 operator, supply petty officer, hazmat petty officer and calibration petty officer. Morales maintained the accountability of over 200 hazardous materials and hazardous waste of the division. He volunteered over 28 hours for the Junior Enlisted Association.

“Petty Officer Morales is an outstanding E-28 team member, he presents a positive attitude every day that motivates others in the division,” Cmdr. Eric Seib, Operations Officer stated.

“These Sailors have worked hard and the recognition is more than deserved. Their individual efforts and their ability to work within a team directly impacted flight operations and the security of NAS Whiting Field. We could not be more proud of these Sailors,” NAS Whiting Field Command Master Chief Lee Stephens emphasized.
