3 things to do this week in Santa Rosa County

1. ATTEND A BEACH CONCERT. The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce will continue its 10th annual free summer concert series, Tunes by the Dunes, from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 3 at Navarre Beach Park. The concert series will offer a line-up of 14 free outdoor concerts every Thursday until Aug. 31 at the Sand Crab Pavilion in Navarre Beach Park. This week’s artist is the Theresa Byrd Band, performing classic rock, modern country and top 40 hits.

2. SEARCH FOR SCALLOPS. Join the University of Florida-Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Florida Sea Grant Extension in Santa Rosa and Escambia counties for the third annual Santa Rosa Sound and Big Lagoon Great Scallop Search, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 5. Volunteers with boats and volunteer snorkelers are needed to participate in a citizen science survey for scallops in the Pensacola Bay System. This is a non-harvest event. Volunteers will work in teams of three or four to conduct surveys. Florida Sea Grant will provide survey supplies; volunteers will need to provide their own snorkeling gear. Registration is required as equipment is limited. 3. LEARN ABOUT CHICKENS. Prudence Caskey, UF-IFAS Extension Santa Rosa County 4-H Agent, will discuss the basics of having your own backyard chickens along with characteristics of the most commonly available chicken breed, 10-11 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Santa Rosa County Extension Office, 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton. Learn how to select the breed of chicken that best meets your needs. The program is free to attend without pre-registration.
