Class set on raising backyard chickens

Attendees of an upcoming class will learn the basics of keeping backyard chickens along with characteristics of the most commonly available chicken breed. [Special to the Press Gazette]

MILTON — The University of Florida Extension in Santa Rosa County will offer a class on raising backyard chickens.

This class is free to attend without pre-registration. It's available at two locations:

  • 10 a.m. Aug. 4, UF-Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Santa Rosa County Extension Office, 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton
  • 10 a.m. Aug. 18, Gulf Breeze Library, 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze

UF-IFAS Extension Santa Rosa County 4-H Agent Prudence Caskey will discuss the basics of keeping backyard chickens along with characteristics of the most commonly available chicken breed.

In addition, learn how to select the breed of chicken for particular needs.
