MILTON — Officials at the Guy Thompson Community Center in Milton want to draw more attendance to their monthly dances. The dances provide socialization and exercise to the senior citizens attending them, though the July 15 dance will be open to all adults.

This Saturday is the fifth dance featuring a beach theme and the music of Linn Campbell, community center director Joe Paschal said.

“We’re getting the numbers, but not what we wanted,” he said. “Our numbers are around 40 to 45. I’d like to have 100, but I’ll be happy with 60 to 70.”

Paschal praised his volunteers for helping with the dances: Michelle Gibbons Ferguson, JoAnn Espy-Giles, and Muriel Jones.

Gibbons Ferguson suggested having a theme for the dances as well as opening them up to all adults, Paschal said. Espy-Giles and Jones promoted them.

From 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday’s dance will feature live music from Linn Campbell. Admission is $5.

The Guy Thompson Community Center is located at 5629 Byrom St. in Milton.
