  • William Carey University has announced the President’s and Dean’s List Scholars for the spring trimester. Area students earning recognition are:

Emily Grace Edwards and Kayla Danielle Rycroft of Gulf Breeze, Dean's List

Julie Elizabeth Jackson of Milton, President's List

President’s List Scholars have a perfect 4.0 grade point average and Dean’s List Scholars must have at least a 3.5 grade point average.

  • Johanna Papa, of Pace, is among the 607 students who earned dean's list honors for the spring 2017 semester at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Johanna, the daughter of Christine Perez and Ricardo Papa, is eligible for this honor by maintaining a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

  • Michayla Mueller, a senior majoring in Spanish Education, participated in the first-ever Language Halls program at Bob Jones University during the 2016-2017 academic year.

The Milton resident joined one of the Chinese-, French- and Spanish-only discipleship groups in the BJU residence halls. Mueller signed a language commitment in a ceremony last August, committing to maintain the language integrity of the group for the entire academic year.

"If done right, immersion is an excellent method for improving language proficiency," says Dr. Jeremy Patterson, chair of the Division of Modern Language and Literature at BJU. "Adding this option for our students both increases the value of a BJU education, which already offers courses in four modern languages as well as community and study abroad opportunities, and also contributes to making BJU a leader in Christian higher education."

BJU's Student Life and Discipleship placed groups of students in residence hall discipleship groups according to the language they are studying. Group leaders and strategically placed native speakers help maintain a no-English zone in the language-specific halls.
