Santa Rosa County Commissioner Rob Williamson will assume the role of chairman of the Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization July 1, according to the West Florida Regional Planning Council.
The Florida-Alabama TPO is the local, intergovernmental transportation policy board for Santa Rosa and Escambia counties in Florida and part of Baldwin County, Alabama. The board comprises local government officials who make decisions regarding the region's transportation.
The Florida-Alabama TPO is required by federal and state legislation to establish a continuing, cooperative and comprehensive planning process. It also works to increase safety, security, accessibility, mobility and connectivity for people and goods.
"I'm grateful for the support of my fellow TPO members in selecting me as the Florida-Alabama TPO chairman for the upcoming year," Williamson said. "I would also like to congratulate Escambia County Commissioner (Jeff) Bergosh on his selection as vice chair. I look forward to serving our TPO members and partners to improve our regional infrastructure."
Williamson was sworn in as District 4 commissioner on Nov. 18, 2014. He is the chairman of the Santa Rosa Board of County Commissioners and the District 1 Representative for the Florida Association of Counties. Additionally, he serves on the National Association of Counties Technology and Telecommunications Steering Committee.
Williamson will begin presiding over the Florida-Alabama TPO meetings 9 a.m. July 12 at the Tiger Point Community Center, 1370 Tiger Park Lane in Gulf Breeze.
