PACE — Pace Rotary’s latest guest speaker was Tim Wyrosdick, Santa Rosa County superintendent of schools.
Wyrosdick shared the success of the STEAM Innovation initiative that is taking place in classrooms throughout the county. STEAM, an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts and math, is an approach to learning that promotes critical thinking and benefits not only the students, but also the entire community.
An area’s economic growth is tied directly to its skilled workforce pipeline. By working in partnership with local and worldwide employers and industries, school districts are able to uncover the skills and talents necessary for their students to be successful in a variety of sustainable fields.
As a result, the focus of education then shifts to pertinent lessons that are facilitated by teachers rather than led by them. Such lessons promote collaboration, teamwork and process-based learning that actively engages students in their own education.
Over the last two years, a team of selected county educators has been perfecting curriculum, assessments and strategies designed to transform our schools and the way we view education.
Pace Rotary meets 7 a.m. Thursdays at Stonebrook Golf Club, 3200 Cobblestone Drive, Pace.
