MILTON — Order of the Eastern Star’s Milton Chapter 189 recently collaborated with Rhodes Elementary School to help with students’ needs.

The school has many children from low-income families who lack proper shoes to wear. Chapter members voted to donate money from its funds to purchase shoes and then passed the hat to supplement the amount.

Sister Sandra Whitley, chapter secretary, purchased 60 pairs of girls and boys shoes in a variety of sizes.

On May 4, Sister Charlene Williams, Worthy Matron; Brother Billy Williams, Worthy Patron; Whitley; and other chapter members visited the school and delivered the footwear. Michele Barlow, Rhodes principal, and Kacie Reaves, assistant principal, greeted them and expressed gratitude for the donations.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a fraternal organization of women and men who work together to benefit their community.
