MILTON — Sunrise Kiwanis members know more about beekeeping after Bill Blankenship and Frank Wilson's presentation at the club’s recent breakfast.

Blankenship, a beekeeper, spoke on the importance of saving pollinators, including carpenter bees. There are 75 registered beekeepers in the Milton area, and Blankenship explained the various jobs bees have in the hives. Housekeepers act as pallbearers; there also are drones, nurses, guards, scouts who are foragers, and the queen.

People should not kill bees if they are bothersome, Blankenship said. Instead, he recommends calling 232-6005 to request a beekeeper to remove them.
