Milton native thrives in Marine Corps

Richard G. Pinner, a 1998 Milton High School alumnus who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1999, currently serves as a staff sergeant in the Marine Corps and is stationed in El Paso, Texas.

In August 2016, Pinner was awarded the Secretary of Defense's Joint Service Achievement Medal. In March 2017, he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He was recently nominated for the Junior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year award and has won the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Navy & Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

Pinner, who has served as a marine for 18 years, is currently the Geospatial-Intelligence support branch chief of staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge of Joint Task Force North at Fort Bliss.

SSgt. Pinner supervises operations of the GSB section, generating and distributing fused phase II intelligence analysis products and assessments. He also serves as one of the Intelligence Directorate’s technical subject matter experts in Geospatial Collection, advising the JTF-North commanding general and his senior staff on capabilities and feasibility of support to operations.

He is also the joint color sergeant for the command and commonly serves as a primary representative for 1st Armored Division tenant commands when executing formal drill and ceremonies in the greater El Paso community.

Pinner’s military career background includes numerous duties in the aviation electronics technician and intelligence occupational fields.

He has deployed multiple times: twice as a member of Joint Task Forces in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and three times as an aviation electronics technician supporting Operations Northern and Southern Watch.
