NAVARRE — The Panhandle Butterfly House will celebrate its grand opening for the 2017 season and 20th anniversary.
The event is set 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 in Navarre Park on Highway 98 at the foot of the Navarre Beach Bridge.
Santa Rosa County District 4 Commissioner and Chairman Rob Williamson will preside over the opening ceremony.
Events include:
- A plant sale with butterfly-friendly plants
- The Butterfly Bazaar with many butterfly items for sale
- Santa Rosa County Master Gardeners available to answer horticulture-themed questions
- Florida Master Naturalists and 4-H demonstrations
- A Master Beekeeper honey sale
Short educational presentations include:
- 11 a.m.: Master Beekeeper beehive demonstration
- 12 p.m.: Butterfly gardening
- 1 p.m.: Host plants for butterflies
- 2 p.m.: Microplastics Awareness: How little pieces cause big problems in our waters
A variety of native butterflies inhabit the inside and outside gardens. Visitors may observe all stages of the butterfly life cycle on nectar and host plants.
The Panhandle Butterfly House will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays starting May 6. Prescheduled tours for groups of 10 or more are available Monday through Wednesday. Reserve a tour by visiting www.panhandlebutterflyhouse.org.
