Faith drops as incarceration rates rise

Dear editor,

My recent letter about science and religion ("Science and religion can be wonderful things," April 22-25, 2017 edition) brought a few comments to the website (www.srpressgazette.com). It also brought another thought regarding religion and government.

Religion teaches morality with its stories from the Bible. Government does not teach morality but lays out morality in its laws and then punishes most offenders of these morality laws.

Liberal government removes the moral teachings of the Bible from children in our schools — unless they are Islamic teachings — and would discredit all Christian religions totally if they could. Yet we as a nation, especially liberals, complain about the highest incarceration rate among civilized societies.

Once incarcerated, we hand (prisoners) a Bible to hopefully instill morality into the now adult in an attempt to teach an old dog new tricks.

Now, what is wrong with this progression of events, and have we created the problem with this liberal social engineering of a liberal government with its ever expanding liberal agenda?
