MILTON — Here are highlights involving area students: 

  • Santa Rosa residents who made Troy University’s chancellor’s list for Term 3 of the 2016-17 academic year include Theodore Dudai of Navarre and Kimberly Smith of Navarre. Full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and earn a grade point average of 4.0 qualify for the list.
  • Mallory Kelly of Navarre has been named to the Troy provost's list for Term 3 of the 2016-17 academic year. The list honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and have a grade point average of at least 3.65.
  • Chassity Jackson of Navarre has been named to the dean’s list at Berkeley College for the fall 2016 semester. Berkeley students who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or better with a minimum of 12 academic credits qualify for the dean’s list.
  • Caroline Sullivan of Gulf Breeze was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester at Washington University in Saint Louis, Mo. Sullivan is enrolled in the university's College of Arts & Sciences. To qualify for the dean’s list in the College of Arts & Sciences, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.
  • Andrew Dobry of Gulf Breeze was inducted into the Mortar Board honor society at the University of Alabama's Tapping on the Mound ceremony on April 7. Mortar Board is a national honor society recognizing college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Dobry also was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society during the Tapping on the Mound ceremony April 7 at The University of Alabama. The Omicron Delta Kappa Society is the national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni; it recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.
  • Gavin Wehby of Gulf Breeze was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Wehby was initiated at Nicholls State University. Just the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
  • Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy honored Maggie Daseler of Pace among 111 third-year students at the recent professional pinning ceremony. The annual event recognizes students as they transition from a predominately classroom environment to advanced pharmacy practice experience.
  • Allie Smith, of Pace, was selected to be a member of the May Court during Alumni Reunion and May Day weekend on Brenau University’s Gainesville campus. She was a senior class representative. The Pace High School graduate is a class of 2017 student majoring in mass communication.
  • Kathryn English of Milton traveled to Chicago April 6-9 as part of requirements for a world religions class. English, an elementary education major, was among 90 students to participate in the trip designed to enlighten students about people and practices of major living religious traditions. Students visited the Baha'I House of Prayer, the Hindu Temple Balaji, Islamic Foundation mosque and a Sikh Religious Society. At each location, students met with tour guides, participated in panel discussions and enjoyed social interactions like the traditional Sikh "langar" dinner. In addition, students attended Shabbat service at KAM Isaiah Israel Congregations and met with Buddhists at Soka Gakkai International.
  • Chanda Hawthorne of Jay attended the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Region IV conference on behalf of Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance. After the week of events, Troy students received awards and recognition. Hawthorne was a National Costume Design nominee for “Flyin' West.”
