MILTON — The Chief of Naval Operations recognized Naval Air Station Whiting Field’s outstanding support to the community with an Honorable Mention for the Personal Excellence Flagship Award.
The award recognizes commands who engage in outstanding community service activities that promote academics, life skills and civic education for youth.
“Congratulations …This award recognizes our outstanding community service … but, most importantly, it acknowledges that our actions have truly made a difference,” NAS Whiting Field Commanding Officer Capt. Todd Bahlau said. “Well done, Shipmates!”
Almost 80 NAS Whiting Field team members participated in programs designed to help youths in the local community. These included: Celebrate Literacy Week, Sea Cadets, Men in Action of Milton Florida, Civil Air Patrol and Big Brother Big Sister, among others. The team supported these organizations with almost 5,000 hours of volunteer service. Ultimately, their efforts benefited more than 3,200 children.
The award, which is managed by Commander Navy Installations Command, is presented to commands in six categories. NAS Whiting Field was recognized in the Medium Ashore category.
