GULF BREEZE — Anticipated rain held off Saturday, making it an ideal day to purchase a plant.

The Santa Rosa Woman’s Club hosted a plant sale at Gulf Breeze Middle School. Local nurseries — including Casey’s Nursery & Landscape of Milton, Green-Up Santa Rosa of Milton, Hiawatha Nursery of Navarre and Panhandle Nursery of Milton — along with club members donated plants for purchase.

The Woman’s Club is a nonprofit organization focused mostly on philanthropy. Members’ work benefits numerous local organizations, including Gulf Breeze Hospital, according to club member Wendy Brandon.

“Any penny we make goes back to the hospital,” Brandon said. “Even our gift shop is completely volunteer run.”

“All of our community service and volunteering is done primarily for our community," Assistant Chairman Mary Eder said. “There are 13 to 14 [organizations] we regularly donate to each year — all to the community.”

The club’s other projects include making complimentary hats for kids during the annual Gulf Breeze Arts Festival and providing complimentary face painting at the Special Olympics. In addition, members will attend the Gulf Breeze High School Auxiliary sterling silver sale April 12 and 13.

Over the years, the club has achieved many goals, like funding the creation and placement of two wooden Gulf Breeze signs, and establishing school scholarship grants.

“We want everyone to know that we are more work oriented than social,” President Sally Stanford said. “Like our slogan says, we are living the volunteer spirit.”
