‘Fruit trees for homeowners’ class set March 17

GULF BREEZE — Experts from the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Santa Rosa County Extension Office will offer a free class on fruit trees for the homeowner.

The class is set 10 a.m. March 17 at the Gulf Breeze Public Library, 1060 Shoreline Drive, Gulf Breeze.

Florida Master Gardener Sam Greendorfer will teach students how harvesting fresh fruit from backyard trees can be a satisfying experience.

Students will learn about the best fruit trees for this area; the importance of both chill hours and cold hardiness, as it pertains to citrus and deciduous fruit; proper pruning; and pest management.
