MILTON — The Project Learning Tree Workshop will give participants an opportunity to meet local natural resource agency staff and learn about natural resource management issues, strategies, and educational efforts.
Sponsored by TRM Woodlands, Inc. and Spanish Trail Lumber Company, the workshop and PLT activity book with more than 90 activities is provided to educators at no cost.
It takes place from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. March 4 at the Milton Campus of Pensacola State College, Building 4300, room 4308.
Registration is available online at http://plt2017.eventbrite.com.
Project Learning Tree is an award-winning, interdisciplinary, environmental education program designed for formal and non-formal educators working with students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. PLT uses trees and forests as the context to help young people gain an awareness and knowledge of natural and built environments. PLT stimulates students' critical and creative thinking, develops students' ability to make informed decisions on environmental issues, and instills a commitment to responsible action on behalf of the environment.
Trained facilitators conduct workshops throughout Florida. During the workshops, participants receive the pre-K-8 activity guide or secondary module and experience first-hand the fun, hands-on, easy-to-use activities. Participants may receive additional PLT materials depending on the theme of the workshop.
Teachers can use PLT in both rural and urban environments, whether there is a forest or a single tree. It teaches students how to think, not what to think about the environment.
