MILTON — The Milton City Council will have a special meeting to pass two resolutions: recommending a southern alternate route for Highway 90 and protecting downtown Milton from being four-laned.
The meeting is set 5 p.m. Feb. 23 in council chambers of city hall, 6738 Dixon St. Councilwoman Peggi Smith made the motion to meet; Alan Lowery seconded it. The motion passed with a nay vote from Councilwoman Sharon Holley.
Similar resolutions were on the council meeting’s Feb. 14 agenda. However, each resolution’s wording was not strong enough, according to Smith. She moved to have the council solicit input from Vernon Compton, Santa Rosa Historical Society president, who has served as a Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization adviser.
Lowery seconded the motion but questioned the timing of rewriting the resolutions since the council wouldn’t be able to pass them until the March meeting.
Mayor Wesley Meiss asked City Manager Brian Watkins if the council could hold a special session during the Feb. 23 Committee of the Whole meeting to pass the new resolutions.
With Watkins’ confirmation, Smith added the special meeting to her motion.
