MILTON — The Santa Rosa Art Association’s next meeting is 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Pensacola State College’s Milton campus in Building 4900. Milton artist Jan Rich will hold a 10 a.m. pouring watercolor demonstration and workshop after the meeting.
“Pouring with watercolor paint is always an adventure. You never know what you will get,” an SRAA media release stated. “Jan feels that you never stop learning about or being amazed by the results of watercolor painting in general and pouring in particular.”
With watercolor, Rich varies materials, often using standard watercolor paper (140- or 300-pound), Yupo and rice paper. She has begun exploring using raw canvas.
Rich grew up in the St. Louis area. After graduating from college, she moved to Miami to teach math at Miami-Dade Community College. After getting a PhD in Educational Statistics, she moved into the college’s Institutional Research Office. She and her husband, Mike, moved to the Milton area 12 years ago.
After retirement, Rich began taking art classes. Watercolor painting is her favorite form of painting. However, she also enjoys pastels. She has taken several classes in watercolor and pastels since moving here.
Workshop participants should bring paper towels and watercolor brushes. Rich will supply the paper and paints. The session is free for SRAA members and costs $10 for guests to attend.
