Pesticide license class scheduled

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences’ Escambia County and Santa Rosa Extension offices have set a private-applicator pesticide license class.

The class is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Walnut Hill Community Center, 7850 Highway 97 in Walnut Hill. Attendees will learn the basics of correctly applying pesticides and can take the FDACS Private Applicator General Standards (Core) and Private Application Agriculture Certification and License exams. The class costs $10 per person to attend and includes lunch.

Registration is required to ensure the proper number of exams. Other categories of exams may be available by request.

WHO NEEDS A LICENSE?

Anyone using or supervising the application of restricted-use pesticides on agricultural or related sites in Florida needs a restricted-use pesticide license.

Agricultural and related sites include, but are not limited to, farms, plant nurseries, livestock, forests, ornamentals and turf not associated with structures.

A "private applicator" is someone who has reached the age of majority (generally 18 years old) and is licensed by FDACS to use or supervise the application of any restricted-use pesticide for producing any agricultural commodity on property owned or rented by the licensed person or that person's employer.

This license is for farm, ranch, grove, nursery and sod farm applications, among other things.
