Escambia, Santa Rosa students to compete in 41st Annual Spelling Bee

Sandy Sansing Chevrolet, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, MINI of Pensacola and Sandy and Bubba’s Milton Chevrolet will host the 41st Annual Sandy Sansing Dealerships Spelling Bee. The event is set Jan. 30, Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 at the Booker T. Washington High School Auditorium.  

Escambia and Santa Rosa fifth- through 12th-graders will compete in preliminary and championship matches. Fifth-grade spelling bee matches will be held 5 p.m. Jan. 30; middle school spelling bee matches will be held 5 p.m. Jan. 31; and high school spelling bee matches will be held 5 p.m. Feb. 2.

For the first time, the middle-school overall winner will advance to the regional Scripps competition in Tallahassee.

Cash prizes will be awarded to preliminary and championship match winners as follows:

Fifth-grade finalists

  • Championship Match Winner, $150
  • First Runner-up, $100  
  • Second Runner-up, $75 

Middle school and high school

  • Preliminary Match Winner, $150
  • First Runner-up, $100
  • Second Runner-up, $75

Middle school finalists

  • Championship Match Winner, $250
  • First Runner-up, $150
  • Second Runner-up, $100
