PACE — Immanuel Baptist Church members are helping those in need during the holidays.
On Friday, the church held a giveaway featuring a variety of items. Church members and residents donated all items up for grabs, according to children’s director Matt Richards.
“Each year we will have anything from washer and dryers to couches, TVs and microwaves, and then we will have your household stuff, clothes for babies to adults,” Richards said.
A large crowd usually shows up for the event, Richards said. Before it begins, Richards said attendees enjoy refreshments while listening to a reading of the biblical Christmas story.
While many yard sale items are used, the sale also offered new toys for children of all ages. Richards said the church will go out and purchase items or church members would donate the new toys.
The church also helps families in need during August, when children head back to school.
“Instead of toys, we have backpacks full of school supplies,” Richards said.
