Milton church schedules caregiver seminar

MILTON — West Florida caregivers can learn more about resources available to them during a free seminar.

The seminar — available 9-11 a.m. or noon to 2 p.m. — will be held Sunday, Nov. 27 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milton.

During the event, sponsored by Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, a local nurse from Covenant Care will present on physical and behavioral changes in older adults; a representative from the Alzheimer Association will speak on the basics of Alzheimer's disease; and a representative from Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida will present on advanced directives and living wills.

Resource tables will be set up for registered participants to come by after the seminar to ask specific questions or schedule appointments with a counselor or advanced directives facilitator.

"Many people are unaware of the resources available in their local area," said Michele Johnston, MSW intern with Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida. “We wanted to provide a comprehensive education opportunity for those caregivers, some of whom might even be in the sandwich generation, also taking care of children."

Registration is required by Nov. 25 to ensure adequate resources for all participants.

To register, contact Michele Johnston at 382-6910 or email johnstonm@ptdiocese.org with the name of those attending, phone number and session (9 a.m. or 12 p.m.) you will be attending.
