MILTON — Some 400 Santa Rosa County families will benefit from Tuesday's Farm to City event at the Guy Thompson Community Center.
Preregistered families waited at the center to receive canned food items, corn meal, baked goods, cold turkeys or ham, and a bag of collard greens, among other things.
These items, donated from the non-profit hunger relief organization Feeding the Gulf Coast, will help local families prepare a complete Thanksgiving meal on Thursday.
Many volunteers from the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Service Santa Rosa County extension office, which organized the event, along with volunteers from the SRC Department of Corrections and Boy Scout Troop 400 in Pace, distributed the food and helped families take the goods to their vehicle.
Extension office volunteers also provided samples of freshly cooked produce while handing out recipes.
Feeding the Gulf Coast also served 400 families during an Escambia County 'Farm to City' event.
