JAY — This rural community’s website has received an upgrade.
The site, www.townofjayfl.com, now features an online calendar, more information on town government and a listing of local businesses and churches.
Town Clerk Donna Bullock said the website is still a work in progress and she hopes to add new features.
Before the upgrade, the website mainly featured minutes and agendas of the town’s council meetings, which take place 6 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month, along with email addresses of Jay officials including the mayor, town clerk and council members.
The website now gives demographic information; for instance, the “average household income of a family in Jay is $40,000 with per capita hovering around $14,000. About 16 percent of the residents are considered below the poverty line,” the site states.
In addition, the site features contact information for several of the town’s services: from utilities to recreation and first response agencies.
Bullock and the town hall staff also plan to add photos from community events such as the Pace High School homecoming parade and the recent Trick or Treat in the Street on Commerce Street.
The calendar currently shows dates for upcoming council meetings and the Christmas Parade, scheduled for Nov. 26. However, Bullock said the calendar could be used for other events, such as local fundraisers.
The calendar will not have personal announcements such as birthdays or family reunions, she said.
Bullock said organizations could contact town hall at 675-4556 for more questions about the new website and event submission for the calendar.
