MILTON — Three people received serious injuries in a Nov. 2 traffic accident on Munson Highway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.
Robert Rinehard, 62, was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado west on State Road 4 and slowed to make a u-turn. Meanwhile, Jerry Carroll, 84, was driving a 2008 Mercury Sable, with 87-year-old Sara Carroll, east on S.R. 4, and Robyn Enfinger, 35, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Enfinger was on Munson Highway and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Munson and State Road 4, according to the release.
As Rinehard attempted to make a u-turn on S.R. 4, he failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming Mercury, according to the release. As a result, Carroll swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision; left the roadway's surface; and then traveled in an easterly direction onto the south shoulder.
As Carroll's car continued traveling eastward, the left rear of his car hit a roadway marker signpost. The Mercury then vaulted off the top of a water runoff drainage tube, which caused his car to become airborne and vault over a ditch adjacent to the westbound lane of travel on Munson Highway.
Afterward, Carroll's car landed on Munson Highway and continued traveling until the front of his car collided with the left side of Enfinger's car.
Rinehard received no injuries; Jerry Carroll has serious injuries while his passenger, Sara Carroll, is in critical condition; and Enfinger has serious injuries, according to the FHP.
Charges are pending, according to the FHP.
