Pace Sunrise Kiwanis Club donates to Head Start students

Lee Bott, Santa Rosa County Schools' Parent, Family, Community Engagement Specialist, is shown receiving a check for shoes — and a continuing commitment of needed underclothes for Head Start students — from Sunrise Kiwanis President Bonnie Holt. Bott explained the importance of "breaking the cycle" in showing not only students that they can succeed in education and life, but their parents and guardians as well. He said that some parents feel defeated in life and expect that their children will be defeated, too. Bott said Head Start also promotes community engagement by providing GED classes for parents, which has been successful, and communication with families striving to break the defeatist cycle. Sunrise Kiwanis meets every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at Tanglewood Golf Course. (Photo special to the Press Gazette)
