MILTON — Registration is underway for the Riverwalk Run 5K 2016, which begins 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 through downtown Milton.
This certified 5K (3.1 miles) afternoon run will offer the chance for three people to win $250. Two of the prizes are available if a man or woman breaks the course record.
Nate Crum set the men’s record, 15:46, in 2011. He served aboard NAS Whiting Field. Milton High School teacher Susan Smith holds the women’s record. Smith, an avid 5K competitor, set the mark of 20:12 in 2013.
The third prize follows a drawing from bib numbers. Participants must be present after the race is concluded and the awards are presented.
Strollers are welcome, but not recommended, as the course may be difficult.
No written registrations are accepted. Instead, sign up through Sept. 28 at www.miltonparks.wix.com/2016riverwalkrun. The fee is $25 online and includes a shirt and race bag to the first 500 people to pick up their packet, as well as post-race refreshments.
Race-day registration is $25 at the Riverwalk Pavilion on South Willing Street. The location is next to the Santa Rosa County Veterans Memorial Plaza, but shirts at this time will not be guaranteed.
Packet pickup will be held 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Guy Thompson Community Center, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the GTCC, and 4 to 4:45 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Riverwalk South Pavilion.
