MILTON — JoEllen Wolf of Pace is a former nurse who knits garments for infants who died before or during birth.

It’s a gift for grieving parents.

Ten years ago, Wolf started by knitting the buttoned gowns for premature babies. Later, she heard about the need for garments for infants who don’t survive.

Wolf, with the Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club’s sponsorship, recently provided 12 garments with hats and five blankets to Santa Rosa Medical Center. SRMC Director of Women’s Services Jennifer South accepted them during a Santa Rosa Kiwanis club meeting at the hospital.

She said the hospital is grateful for the gifts.

“In the past, we’ve had various things made for us for this occurrence, and the parents are always extremely appreciative of anything, but this … It’s very beautiful,” South said.

“It’s very meaningful, and it’s something that they can keep.”
