MILTON — Grace Patti Compton is a graduate of the New York Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

She is a renowned watercolorist, art teacher and former successful art gallery owner.

And she can add another accomplishment to her resume: she is the Dragonfly Gallery’s Artist of the Month.

Her watercolor works encompass mostly landscapes inspired by photographs or places she’s visited.

“I’m not an on-site painter,” she said. “I can’t stand the elements — the heat, cold and the bugs.”

Her favorite subjects are landscapes with open fields, trees with bends in the branches, unusual trunks and aging trees with fantasy-like backgrounds.

Originally an oil artist, she is now solely devoted to the watercolor medium. Her watercolors have been featured in numerous galleries including the renowned Distinctive Fine Art Galleries in Hartford, Conn.

She also studied at the Elizabeth Anthony School of Art in New Jersey under Donald Voorhees, Ludlow Thorston and Louis Panagini.

You can see Compton's art 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Dragonfly Gallery, 6815 Caroline St., in downtown Milton.
