LETTER: American law is not the same as Christian law

Editor’s Note: This is a response to guest columnist Glenn Mollette’s piece, “A penny mentality in America?” that published in the July 23-26, 2016 Santa Rosa Press Gazette.

Dear editor,

Glenn, you need a Ten Commandments lesson.  Only Protestants have a Sixth Commandment that is related to killing.

The King James Version says, “Thou shalt not kill.”

The New King James Version says, “You shall not murder.”

Catholics’ Sixth Commandment says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

Oh, I bet you didn’t know the “Commandments” aren’t the same for all purported Christians. Yes, the Catholics have their own brand of God’s 10 Commandments. But, that’s not as surprising as the fact that most Protestants only accept nine of God’s 10 Commandments (see Exodus 20).

Now, since America is only 80 percent made up of Catholics and Protestants, the other 20 percent wouldn’t even think to be obedient to God’s 10 Commandments. So, if the 20 percent do any killing or murdering, they must be disobeying some other system — or maybe it is just OK for them?

Interesting thing about American law; it does seem to condemn murder, and people do get sent to ‘death row’ when they are convicted of murder.

But, since church and state are separated, American law is not the same as God’s law.

Oh, and one last item: In America, we have multiple gods being represented, so I need to clarify that American law is not the same as the Christian God’s law.

How confusing. Shouldn’t you be a seeker of truth on this issue?
