LETTER: Let’s not nurture the venom

With a new school year on the horizon, what will be made of it? The school year will go by; what will become of it?

Allan David Bloom, an American philosopher and academician once said, "Education is a movement from darkness into light." In the recent weeks, we as a society have seen the darkness, the violence and the division. The venom spewed regarding race, ethnic origin, and political philosophies are brought into the classrooms by even the youngest of students.

Our public education system is a melting pot of students, and the classroom education personnel stirs this pot into a stew.  Which ingredients will the 'cook' have to work with?

Support our students. Let's not nurture the venom. Let's use our influence to promote positive changes in our society, not with darkness, violence or division. Students are mirrors that through education can become windows.
