Boater safety class scheduled

MILTON — U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 18-Milton, “The Guardians of the Blackwater,” will offer “About Boating Safely.” This eight-hour class covers basic legal requirements for boaters, boating safety, elements of boat handling, and how to handle common boating emergencies.

The class begins 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9 in the Training Room of the Milton Fire Department, 5321 Stewart St. (Highway 87) in Milton.  Class materials cost $35 per person, or family (up to four) sharing a book. Contact Auxiliarist Jerry Damico at 791-1266 to register.

Successful completion of the course makes the boater eligible for a State of Florida Boating ID card, a requirement for boaters born on or after Jan. 1, 1988 to operate a boat in state waters.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the U.S. Coast Guard and supports the Coast Guard in nearly all mission areas. The auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939.
